A Sneak Peak at Uncanny Valley, A Survival Horror Game

Uncanny Valley is a survival horror game being made by Cowardly Creations. According to their blog, their goal is to make a game true to the survival horror genre, as opposed to simply mislabeling an action game as so. It's expected to be released later this year.

"You play as Tom, a newly recruited security guard at a remote, closed down facility. There are only two people there, him and another security guard, sharing the shifts between night and day. Soon, our main character starts exploring the abandoned facility only to discover some very interesting things."

This is your coworker, Buck. You don't work alone, but this guy will make you wish you did.

Sounds pretty interesting. However, upon trying to ask for more information, Tadej Kupčič (the head guy at Cowardly Creations) said:

"I would love to share more information with you, but the story plays a huge part in the game. You can mention something we'll announce soon - some kind of a consequence system. Horror games usually punish you with deaths when you fail at something, which leads to frustration and that's not scary. So we decided to implement a system that lets you forward the game and the story adapts to your actions (you can still die at some occasions though)."

Pretty vague, but I think that's the fun behind it. People go crazy about not knowing things.
A few key features of the game include:
  • A huge explorable facility with multiple floors and buildings
  • Detailed backstory with rich characters
  • Intense moments of dread
That's about all they've given me to share with you, but I do have an unreleased screenshot (we're the first to have it and post it!). It features a new, surreal area that you see in your dreams. It also features one of the enemies found in the game.
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to what will come of this.
You can look at their blog and follow up with information as they release it on their tumblr. Thanks for reading!

Sorry for yesterday's post being a little late, we had to play the game and review in a hurry, today's game will also be late for that very reason also.

XenoRaptor

XenoRaptor:

The Game of Sending Attack Bears at Chainsaw Skull Pilots as a Cyberdragon In Space

That just sounds like a game full of testosterone. I found this game probably 4 days ago, and what I just mentioned in the heading doesn't even tip the iceberg of this game.

What is XenoRaptor?
XenoRaptor is a co-op arcade-like space shooter. There's not really a story involved; it's just a hectic, challenging game with a lot of customization. Customization such as a plasma flamethrower to accompany my heavy incendiary chain-gun. And let us not forget the crazier weapons (that I have yet to unlock), like sending a bear to attack the pilot of other ships, and a gravity gun to make asteroids demolish your foes.

And the game isn't even finished.

There's still a lot more features to be added. With that being said, you can get it at the official XenoRaptor website for $10 (Australian Dollars, 91 cents to a US dollar) while it's still in beta. It has it's few problems (a lot of which tend to be subjective, like whether the movement speed is too slow), but this is definitely a solid game, especially for a beta. Personally, a game where you just shoot stuff and try to not die is refreshing to me; in a time period in gaming that seems to be based on making sure to be story driven and socially progressive in one form or another, often skimping out on what makes a game different from an interactive novel, the engaging gameplay.

^ Engaging gameplay, ^
|   if you weren't sure   |

That's all I have to say about this game for now (after all, I have to get back to unlocking some more weapons).  Be sure to check out the official website, try out the demo, and be sure to check out the Greenlight page and vote!
